Bansko benefits from Brexit

„While there are hectic disputes about how Britain will leave the EU, one country already gets some dividends out of Brexit, and that is Bulgaria.” With such a conclusion came out The Guardian. According to the media the UK bookings for Bulgarian winter resorts and mostly Bansko increase. At New Year’s Eve 70% of the guests in Bansko’s hotels, guest houses and hostels were Britons.

The Guardian states that UK tourists are looking for alternative holiday destinations in Southeastern Europe, because the traditional EU destinations have become more expensive after the British pound lost value after the referendum in 2016 for Brexit. Indeed Britons, who traditionally enjoy skiing  and partying in the Pirin Mountain, are now insuring themselves from future fluctuations of the pound by looking for more valuable travel destinations after the Brexit deal was rejected by the majority of the MPs in London. Travel agents report that people choose more often all-inclusive packages in this part of the continent in order to be able to calculate their food, drink and accommodation costs. Currently the exchange rate of the GBP to the EUR is much lower than in 2016. After the Brexit deal was rejected a new drop in the value of the Pound is expected. That would make more expensive every Briton’s holiday in Europe.

For over a decade Bansko has been leading the British rankings for the most lucrative resort.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) reported that this year there was an almost 30% increase of the bookings for Bulgaria compared to 2018.
