Three out of 21 Bulgarian athletes at the the XXIII Winter Olympics in PyeongChang will directly defend the sporting honor of Bansko. In addition, each of the three holds a record in our delegation.
Bulgaria's best skier Maria Kirkova will represent the Ulen ski team for the 4th time on Olympic Games. Only she and Bulgaria's First lady in snowboarding Alexandra Zhekova have that many participations in Olympics.
The oldest member of the Bulgarian delegation is 35-year-old Mihail Klecherov. He has a legendary status and is member of the Bansko biathlon club. In PyeongChang he will participate the Olympics for the third time in a row.
The Bansko connection in PyeongChang is strengthened indirectly by father and son Valentin Stefanov and Victor Gichev - both Chief of Races in the technical ski disciplines. For Valentin Stefanov these will be the second Olympic games at this position, but he is already hired for Beijing 2022.
Finally, the Bulgarian flag-bearer in PyeongChang will be the Pirin emblem Radoslav Yankov, who is born in the Rhodope Mountains. The snowboard star, who promoting for Bansko Bansko, is Bulgaria's biggest hope for a medal at the Olympics.
