It has been confirmed by FIS that Eastern Europe’s best ski resort will host in 2021 the two most important skiing events - the World Cup and the World Championship.
The town under Todorka Peak and BFSki (Bulgarian Ski Federation) received a definite confirmation from FIS that in 3 years on February 27th and 28th they will host the Men's World Cup (Super-G and GS), and between March 1st and 10th the World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships U21.
The final decision was taken during the FIS Autumn Conference in Zurich (Switzerland), where BFSki President Mr. Tseko Minev received congratulations for the perfect organization and conduct of all the events so far in Bansko and the FIS Technical Committee gave the green light for the starts in 2020/2021.
This is the first time when Bansko will host FIS World Cup races in three consecutive winters. After a 4-year break the men will return for a long weekend from February 22nd to February 24th, 2019 to fight for the alpine combination, Super-G and GS. In 2020 on January 25th and 26th the ladies will race in Super-G.
This ensures Bansko an entry into the club of the biggest ski resorts, because in the first month of the year the privilege to host World Cup races only belongs to locations such as the Austrian Kitzbühel and Schladming, the Swiss Adelboden and Wengen, the German Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Italian Cortina d'Ampezzo.
