A FIS delegation led personally by the new Race director of the Women's Ski World Cup Peter Gerdol inspected Bansko’s ski area and expressed superlatives for the conditions here.
The occasion of the visit was that the small town under Pirin mountain will host for the 7th time the most commercial white race on January 25th and 26th, 2020, when the ladies will compete in Downhill and Super G. With the races in the first month of 2020 Bansko automatically enters the club of the biggest winter centers, because in January there are World Cup races only in the Austrian Kitzbühel and Schladming, in the Swiss Adelboden and Wengen, in the German Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in the Italian Cortina d'Ampezzo.
During their walk under Todorka peak the FIS delegation was impressed by the snow cover on the slopes even in the middle of June. Except the racing tracks and the final area, Peter Gerdol and his men inspected the hotels that will accommodate contestants, guests and journalists. As usual Bansko has confirmed its reputation as perfect host of World Cup races receiving an excellent score on all requirements of the International Ski Federation.
In the upcoming season the main challenge for Ulen and BFSki will be the organization of FIS competitions during the crowded winter months, because the World Cup preparations will start in the peak of the tourist season between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
The FIS delegation was accompanied by the vice-president of the Bulgarian Ski Federation Georgi Bobev, the Race director Viktor Gichev, the track manager Georgi Popov-Tumbe and others.
