Elena Curtoni won the second downhill (DH) race in Bansko on January 25th, 2020. The 28-year-old Italian finished after 1: 29.31 and took her first career victory. She was followed by Marta Bassino with 0.10 seconds, and Federica Brignone with 0.14 seconds delay. Thus, they secured a triple victory for Italy.
A late starter with bib No. 28, Curtoni benefited from improving visibility as the sun came out on the technically demanding Marc Girardelli course.
It was the second time in the 53-year-history of the World Cup that the Italian team took the top three spots in a women's downhill. The previous time was two years ago in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria, when Sofia Goggia won ahead of Brignone and Nadia Fanchini.
Friday's downhill winner Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) finished 0.35 behind, with her American teammate Breezy Johnson 0.12 further back in fifth.
Shiffrin leads the overall standings with 1 125 points, followed by Brignone with 855 points and Slovakia's Vlhova with 790 points.
