Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko proudly receives the “Earth Check Silver certificate” as it has successfully started cooperation with “Clean the World Organization” as part of Kempinski’s worldwide sustainability and corporate responsibility program.
In January 2020 the hotel started collecting all plastic amenity bottles, about 120.000 per year, to lead them to a recycling process and helping to ensure that toiletries will not end up in landfills or burned. Soap bars are collected as well and will be sanitized, transformed into new soap bars and distributed among communities in need, such as benefit shelters, children’s shelters, refugee camps and people struggling due to economic and misfortune or natural disaster.
As part of the commitment to offering sustainable luxury experiences along with safe and quality services and facilities, Kempinski is actively rolling globally the award-winning EarthCheck Certified programme. Hotels participating the programme actively monitor and report their environmental and social impact from their operations, including indicators such as energy and water consumption, carbon footprint, waste generation, community engagement and much more. Using a science-based approach, each of the hotels aims to increase efficiencies, maximize guest experience and minimize its environmental footprint. Economic concerns addressed in the EarthCheck Certified programme include employment conditions, support of the local economy, use of fair trade goods and services, and recognition of the seasonality of revenue streams – all contributing to the economic and social health of the region.
The received certificate complements the overall eco-image of Bansko after launching at the end of 2018 the initiative of the concessionaire "Ulen" to stop the use of disposable plastic products in the ski area.
