At the 149 concert evenings until now (including the upcoming August 6th -10th, 2019) the Bansko Jazzfest has brought together more than 1 million audience in total the director of the biggest summer cultural event Dr. Emil Iliev announced.
"At the festival around 5 - 6 000 people attend the live performances every evening. The seats are limited, but not the standing places. I hope that in the coming years we will generate a total audience of around 2 - 3 million people. In Bansko there is a constantly improving atmosphere of friendship and hospitality. In the city they open new establishments, hotels and increase the level of service", Dr. Iliev said before presenting the program highlights of the 22nd festival, which will take place at Nikola Vaptsarov Square free of charge. This time it will be dedicated to funk music.
The American saxophonist Maceo Parker, who played alongside James Brown, Ray Charles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince and George Clinton will open the Jazz Festival this year. In the second evening Malina Moye will take the stage. On August 8th The Jamal Thomas Band will groove. On the next day the English saxophonist and singer Ray Gelato will perform for the second time at the Bansko Jazz Festival with The Giants after he was here in 2013. They will celebrate their 25th anniversary, presenting their new album. On the last evening the Britons Tony Momrelle and Vanessa Haynes from the band Incognito will bring some great sound to Bansko.
There will also be a strong local music presence. Vasil Petrov and Kamelia Todorova will be soloists of the Blagoevgrad Big Band and Lyubo Denev once again relied on Vesela Morova for his avant-garde compositions. Lina Nicole and the Band of Konstantin Beikov will interpret our folklore with the means of jazz, pop and funk.
The hosts of the festival are Kristiana Rangelova and Mihail Topalov.
