Four of Bansko's museums and the emblematic church Holy Trinity might soon be placed on the map of Europe’s 100 major tourist attractions. The idea about the so called Sofia Map was proposed by the Bulgarian Minister for Tourism Nikolina Angelkova and the President of the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria and former Foreign Minister Solomon Passy. It was presented at Tourism and Economic Growth summit in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, which is part of the events related to the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Angelkova and Passy already have their first strong supporter - Malta. The initiative supported the Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTS) provides books with places for 100 stamps - unique for every destination to be visited. As soon as people have visited 25 of them they will receive a bronze badge, for 50 visited destinations they will get a silver and for all 100 the enthusiasts will get a gold badge.
In the existing map for Bulgaria's 100 major tourist attractions founded 1966 everything starts here, because people receive the first stamp in Bansko. The second one, they get on the highest peak in Pirin - Vihren (2914 m).
