The Ministry of Environment and Water allowed the concessionaire of the Bansko ski area "Ulen" to start the reconstruction of the Alberto Tomba slope, that needs to be stabilized after 7 FIS World Cups in the last 9 years. In an official letter Deputy Minister Krassimir Zhivkov informed Ulens CEO Mrs. Maya Hristoskova, that for such activities there is no compatibility assessment procedure required.
The Ministry confirms that the rehabilitation of the track next to "Tomba" at 1,825 m above sea level is necessary for assuring the safety of the tourists heading to the Banderitsa hut. For stopping the erosion processes constructive events and biological recultivation are needed. According to experts all these activities do not have a negative impact on the nature, part of “Nature 2000”.
We remind that after two perfectly organized FIS Snowboard World Cups in 2017 and 2018 Bansko is back on the FIS Ski World Cup calendar next year. In 2019 the slope "Tomba" is expecting 3 mens starts – for the alpine combination on February 22nd, Super G on the 23rd and giant slalom on the 24th. The ladies will compete in the Pirin mountain in 2020 in Super G on March 7th and for the alpine combination on the 8th.
In connection with the upcoming races in 2019, the FIS procedure requires a regular summer inspection not only for the famous track “Tomba” but also for the whole ski area. In June and August 2017 FIS delegations have visited Bansko twice - for the Snowboard World Cup and for Bansko's bid for the Ski World Cup in 2021 and Ulen and BFSki received excellent grades.
