The 2003 world champion in downhill skiing Michael Walchhofer donated to the Wall of Fame at Sopranos restaurant in Bansko his racing helmet and his starting number from Lake Louise, where he won the first gold medal in his career in 2003. The Canadian resort brought luck to Wallhofer - 7 years later, on November 27th, 2010, again in Lake Louise, the then 35-year-old Austrian became the oldest skier to win a gold medal in World Cup downhill. His record was taken away less than 2 months later by Didier Cuche, who won the downhill in Kitzbühel on January 22nd, 2011 at the age of 36. Later that year, Walchhofer visited Bansko for the first time as an official guest for the opening ceremony of winter season 2011-2012.
The Wall of Fame at Sopranos restaurant has many valuable trophies from legendary skiers who have visited Bulgaria’s Best Ski Resort over the years. Among them are Alberto Tomba, Mikaela Shiffrin, Deborah Compagnoni, Marc Girardelli and Kristian Ghedina.
