Bulgaria wins the medal ranking in FIS Snowboard Alpine Junior World Championships Bansko 2023

On Sunday, March, 26th, 2023 Germany won the gold medal in the team competition at the FIS Snowboard Alpine Junior World Championships Bansko 2023. Max Kuehnhauser and Salome Jansing defeated the Swiss Nicola Meiser and Flurina Baetschi in the final. Bulgaria competed with three teams in the mixed team competition. Petar Gergovski and Yordanka Andonova finished at the 16th position, Tervel Zamfirov and Savina Dimitrova at the 20th, and Alexander Krashniak and Yana Tumbeva at 25th.

The prize winners in the team competition were personally awarded by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Bulgaria Mrs. Vesela Lecheva, who watched the finals at Banderishka Polyana. "This championship gives us hope for the Olympic Games in 2026. It is obvious that we have an exceptional young generation, and it was not by chance that Bulgarian snowboarders won the individual disciplines. А very talented young generation is walking in the footsteps of Alexandra Zhekova and Radoslav Yankov and I hope to see them winning world championships as grown up men and women," said Vesela Lecheva. The Minister of Youth and Sports also praised the hosts in Bansko: ”Bansko once again proved itself as a perfect organizer of major competitions. After the FIS Snowboard World Cup earlier this year, the resort also managed to hold an excellent Junior World Championships," added Lecheva. She wished health and success to our young talents, and a speedy recovery to the injured Andrea Kotsinova.

Among the spectators was the winner of the FIS Crystal Globe for 2016, Radoslav Yankov. The championships were officially closed by the member of the Council of the International Ski Federation and president of BFSki Mr. Tseko Minev.

Bulgaria finished in first place in the medal ranking in Bansko. Our young talents won 2 titles through Tervel Zamfirov (PGS) and Petar Gergyovski (PSL), as well as two silver medals for Alexander Krashniak. Kristiyan Georgiev completed the excellent performance of the Bulgarian team with the fourth place at PSL, Gergyovski was also fourth at PGS. The second place in medals goes to Switzerland with a title and a silver medal. Germany took the third place, thanks to the title in the parallel slalom team competition.
The Bulgarian snowboarders will stay in Bansko, where the Bulgarian State Championship 2023 will be held on March 27th & 28th.
