Two Bulgarian victories at Bansko Freeride World Qualifier 3*

The freeride elite gathered in Bansko this weekend. The result is two Bulgarian victories in front of the audience of Bansko Freeride World Qualifier 3 * today. The competition was held under excellent conditions and organization. The start was directly from Todorka peak (2714 m.).

The Bulgarian Borislav Stoyanov took the victory in the men's snowboard with 70.67 points. Second is Bakesh David (CZ) with 65.00 points, and third became Bulgarian Nikola Abadjiev with 63.00 points.
In the women’s snowboard first was Annette Jacob (H) with 63.00 points, ahead of Melissa Brandner (UK) with 60, and Yana Stoyanova (BG) with 50.00 points.
The victory in the women’s ski race goes to Boryana Angelova (BG) with 76.00 points, and in the men's race to May Stirn (SLO) with 85 points.
58 athletes from 15 nations took part in the competition, among them 28 Bulgarians.
"The organization and conditions (in Bansko) are excellent and are in line with the start of the Freeride World Tour," said Dion Newport, Freeride World Tour Adviser.
The competition lasted several hours on March 19th and gathered several hundred spectators in the highest fan zone for starts of this rank, next to the top station of Baderitsa 2 lift (2550m.). 


The starting height of Bansko Freeride World Qualifier 3 * is 2746 m from Todorka peak, and the displacement / vertical descent - 350-400 m. Length of the descent line: 800-1000 m., 30 '- 55’ steep.

Each participant was entitled to only one descent, without prior riding on the slope. Five judges evaluated the participants in the following criteria: difficulty on the line, control, ease, technique and jumps.

This is one of the snowiest winters in Bansko for the last 10 years. According to the organisation Avalanche Bulgaria so far (19.03.22) in Bansko Winter Resort the accumulated snowfall for the season is 579 cm at 2200 meters above sea level. As of today the snow cover in Bansko Ski Area is around 300cm.



Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) aims to develop the talent and skills of future athletes. In the new season, starts of this rank will take place in Austria, Russia, Switzerland, USA, Japan, France and Canada. Competitors earn points by participating in 60 events held around the world (40 of which in Europe). The rating system is based on the star rating of the qualifying events (1 to 4 stars) and the respective region of events:
· Region 1: Europe, Asia and Oceania
· Region 2: USA, Canada, Chile and Argentina.
